Vista OS migration

My local hard drive is on the fritz and in danger of failing. I'm running
vista 64 home premium on it. Ideally, I'd like to get a new internal, and
load the OS on to that. Boot from that, verify, then change the boot menu
from there.

I don't have the original windows XP disc, but I do have the vista upgrade
cd. I was thinking maybe a backup/restore to the new hard drive, but maybe
that won't work or there's a better way of doing this. If anyone has any
suggestions, they would be incredibly appreciated!

Are you just wanting to replace a failed hard drive?
If so then you want a disk cloning application such as Ghost, Acronis
TrueImage or similar.
This will mirror the data on the drive exactly, and expand the filesystem to
allow use of any additional capacity on the new drive.

Multi-posting questions is NOT appreciated.

You have answers to your question in Vista General discussion.

People like you are a blight on Newsgroups!

Carl - Thank you for your response.

Mick Murphy - A blight on Newsgroups? That's a bit harsh and rude. I
reposted the question in this forum because "Installation and Setup" is a
more accurate category for my question. I forgot to delete the other post.
So sue me, I'm a busy person. My sincerest apologies, oh master of
proper-posting-etiquette. In the interest of not getting off topic, let's
consider this matter closed.

Deleting rarely works because of the nature of newsgroups.
Better not try and just look at both places.

However as you know, cross posting is preferred to multiposting.
