Vista Locks up when saving files

I keep having problems working with different programs in Vista where when I
go to open a file from within the program it hangs up when opening the folder
to look for the file. Then sometimes when I go to save a file, a new one or
hitting save as, it hangs up. The computer doesn't lock up but the dialog box
becomes non responsive. The weird thing is, is that it's sometimes sporadic.
Sometimes it will work with the program, then other times it won't. It's
really frustrating. Any suggestions?

What are your hardware specs?

What programs is it doing it in?

You have to supply info!

I have a Compaq Presario V5000 series notebook.
AMD Turion ML-32 1.80 Ghz processor
1 G ram

It's happening in various programs such as Zune Media Player, Corel
PhotoDraw X2, Internet Explorer (when I try to upload a file), and Firefox
(when uploading files).

Hope thats enough hardware info

You got to be meaning downloading files!!!

upload is when you "send" and "save" a file to a remote server... from you
computer to a outworld machine.

It doesn't engage the CD/DVD drive when I'm doing this. I guess I could
remove it and try it. I was thinking it had something to do with how Vista
looks for files.
