Your post is extremely difficult to read. Please use standard
capitalization, punctuation, and avoid run-on sentences in future. I don't
say this to hurt your feelings but rather to help you get the free help
from us volunteers that you want. After all, you want to make it *easy* for
people to help you. Many people won't even bother to read a post like
yours, let alone give you help.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 - How to Ask a Question

In general for issues like yours the troubleshooting steps are:

1. Make sure the computer is completely virus/malware-free:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

2. Look in Event Viewer for clues:
Start Orb>Search box>type: eventvwr.msc
Click on eventvwr.msc when it appears in the Results box above.

Do more troubleshooting and/or take action depending on the results, such as
updating drivers, etc.

3. Make sure the hardware is good:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot

4. If the computer is virus/malware-free and the hardware is good, manage
the startup matrix to see what is running in the background to cause the
lockups:

Start Orb>Start Search box>msconfig [enter]

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation,
type the password, or click Continue. Then see what is on the Startup tab.
You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll get
a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Usually in Vista this will be
blocked by Windows Defender and you'll need to allow it so you can then
tick the box that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Important - Do not use the System Configuration Utility to stop processes.
Instead, use Start>Run>services.msc [enter] and do not stop any services
unless you really, really know what you're doing.

The free Autoruns program is very useful for managing your Startup -
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/default.mspx - Autoruns

In general, this is not going to be something that a Microsoft tech is going
to be able to help you with over the telephone. If you can't do the work
yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea),
take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data
backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

(snip rest of unreadable post)

I'm very sorry you took my reply amiss. I thought I was perfectly clear
about my comments being made only to help you. Since you apparently have
decided to take what I wrote personally, then even though I did not mean to
hurt your feelings I will apologize for any negative experience you may
have had while reading my reply.

I'm sure someone else will be able to help you in a style more congenial to
your sensibilities.

I wish you the very best of luck in solving your computer issues.

Just my thoughts on this, but you might try this.

start -> run compmgmt.msc /s
select device manager
look for any folders that are opened with a yellow warning, or worse. I've
never seen red, but I'd guess it exists. The yellow warning says a devicehas
failed.
Before wasting time explaining how to fix that, just see if anything needs
fixing.

=======================================
same place:
someone else mentioned the event viewer.
Look for critical ones here. fix them first, then look for warnings..
===========================================
just an after thought, how much free drive space, and how big is your pagefile
?
right click the status bar, open task manager, performance tab.. Is it maxed
out ? check processes tab, sort on the CPU tab, if it's zero, sort the other
direction. system idle process should be near the top or at least in view. How
many processes are actually running ? Mine show 82, probably normal operation.
Any processes showing 100% ? or near that ? write it down... check applications
tab. You say it freezes with 2 open, this tab should show you what's running.
Outside of virus or trojans.. Someone did tell you to check for virus 1st.

trend : 2. The Java VM Core Engine- to use this engine, please install the Java VM from www.java.com.

You'll need to install trends applet to run the virus scan. Depending on drive
size, the scan could take awhile.
I have over 500 gigs, and use my own copy of trend weekly. It does run for
hours. But it's your only way to know if you've been compromised.
=========================================================
A system restore won't clean your machine of virus or trojans.
But housecall from trend can.
You shouldn't even consider housecall if you aren't on DSL. or same cost
monthly access.

Did you install Vista on the PC or did it come with it? You upgraded RAM so
I guess you installed Vista. You probably have stuff on your PC that is
incompatible with Vista.

List every programme you have on your machine.
