You're kidding, right?

Ubuntu beats Vista by a long shot.

And who's in charge of that, Frank?

Doesn't really matter in the whole scheme of things. Run an operating system
with the "security" that Vista or XP offers and you still stand a good
chance of losing your data. It's happened millions of times to millions of
Windoze users.

Cheers.

You could have mentioned:

Better memory management
Better Parental Controls
Better, faster search
Better firewall
Better security (not counting UAC)
Better damage control
I guess I could have, but all those "features" are so inferior to what Linux
offers, it's hardly worth mentioning.

Cheers.

Well Mr. Ubuntu, if Ubuntu is so great, why doesn't everyone install it?

Because most don't even know there's an alternative to the crapware that
comes preloaded on their computers. If they read Alias' posts, they will
learn. What's wrong with knowledge?
Ubuntu is FREE and their market share is very low. What does that tell
ya?

It tells us that you have no idea about what "market share" means, nor the
fact that Open Source doesn't and can't play that game, because users are
free to install it whenever and wherever they want without any Big Brother
interferring or even knowing about it.
Tells me that Ubuntu is a Piece-O-Crap! The numbers don't lie.
There are no numbers you doofus.
Vista costs hundreds of dollars (and Euros) and millions upon millions use
it.

True. Comes preloaded on their computers and they know nothing else. To
them, a computer is a Windoze box. Just shows their ignorance of what's
available and YOU seem to be very concerned about keeping this a secret.

Ubuntu is FREE and it will NEVER take over Windows. Face it, you are
just trying to market a piece of crap.
Ubuntu may never take over Windows. The people that put out Ubuntu aren't
the least bit interested in it overtaking Windoze. It's an ALTERNATIVE way
to drive a PC and a damn good one. But it isn't for everyone. It certainly
isn't for the dimwitted like you.

Cheers.

I had a client in my office for a non computer related matter and I
showed her Ubuntu and she asked, "Is that Vista?" Most people don't know
what Ubuntu is but if they visit this and other newsgroups, they most
certainly will.

I don't think that all that many people in the USA will use Open Source
compared to Europe, the third world and Canada. Unlike the USA, at least
here in Europe, most computers are sold by small chains that will build
to your specifications and will install Ubuntu for FREE if you buy a new
machine.

Better firewall than what ? Maybe XP, but not 3rd party products.

Which is suprising, since MS has a history of integrating into Windows what
3rd party developers used to be able to sell.

As NoStop said, most don't realize there's an alternative to Windows, and
to most Windows is a computer.

I'd say a lot of people try the live CD. Some even do a HD install.

But, the reason it's not used more is because of all the non-GUI
configuration that is needed, and unless you are an experienced computer
user, you are most likely afraid of the command line.
