Vista Install failure

I tried to install Beta 2 on an Abit NF7-S2G MB and AMD3200+ with 516MB
Ram.
It dual boots with WinXP on Drive 0 and it is installed on Drive 1.
The only USB type devices are Microsoft Keyboard and Intellimouse Explorer
which are connected to the PS2 interfaces through USB/PS2 convertors.
The Chipset is NVidia nForce2 Ultra 400 and the graphic card is NVidia
FX5900.
All other devices are 'onboard'.
The install hangs after 'Windows is starting for the first time' and the
screen has the green moving bars over the Microsoft Corporation logo.
If I reset the PC, it informs me that windows closed unexpectedly and offers
to start in Safe Mode.
However, Safe Mode complains that it needs to start normally in order to
complete the installation.
Starting normally hangs at the same point.
I have had this occur with XP with a bad driver and had to roll back in Safe
Mode, however this is not possible here.

Any suggestions?
Fortunately, WINXP is OK on the dual boot.

Ok, fixed!
First let me correct my earlier post.
I meant RC2 Bld 5744.
I had forgotten that I had one USB device still plugged in and active. It
was a Western Digital external HD with a USB hub built in and although it
was off, the hub was live as were the two card readers that are part of it.
I unplugged this completely and restarted the install as before, (from
within WINXP) and over the old failed installation.
The sequence I got might be off interest, or maybe not ;)
I chose to let updates to the install download from the web.
I got the install screen.
Copying Files - OK
Expanding files - 27% - Rebooted - 100%
Install Features - OK but only took a few seconds?
Install Updates - OK- Rebooted
Starting Windows 1st time - Completing Installation - Progress slider to
around 90% - Rebooted
Set up date password etc - Checking performance - Rebooted.
Got as far as the Green Bars, then screen went blank and no further progress
for 15 mins or more although the keyboard was active, (shift light etc)..
I hit the reset button in frustration and booted into Safe Mode.
It loaded lots of system files until the last file which was crcdisk.sys,
then hung with the please wait message and then rebooted itself!!
Came up on its own and proceeded to the log on screen.
Seems OK now.

Ok, this is wierd.
I tried to go into Media Center and the screen went black with just a mouse
pointer.
Nothing would get me out of it, even the 3 fingered salute failed.
I reset and it went into Safe Mode and the Media Center opened OK there.
Now it sticks on the green bars when trying to get into normal mode.
Beta testing is a joy......
