VISTA - IE7 SECURITY CERTIFICATE ERROR

B

Brian Komar

Hmmm. I just connected to that Web site and not problems with the
certificate at all...
Certificate is valid from: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 10:09:06 AM
Certificate is valid to: Tuesday, January 04, 2011 10:09:06 AM

One other person mentioned time sync. Can you verify that your current
date/time is between these two dates on your computer.

Also, if you view the certificate, and download the certificate.
Could you run certutil --verify -urlfetch DownloadedCert.crt from your
computer?

This would provide me with more details as to what the exact problem is
that you are facing.

I will check when I go home to my vista machine, but I am pretty sure the
time & date are accurate.

As for the other stuff, i have zero idea how to view the certificate -- I
went into certificates and there was nothing close to a yahoo one. Moreover,
there wasn't any obvious way to request or download one.

On the URL bar, click the lock.
You can view the details of the certificate, and then on the details tab,
choose to Copy to a file

Hi All!

I'm in the same boat. My problems started a couple of days ago. Vista now
says that ALL SSL sites have had certificates revoked.

Brian,

I would attach a picture of some of the sites, but I cannot. When I
navigate to an SSL site, IE displays the error and only one option (Close the
window). I cannot verify the certificate, IE doesn't display the lock icon.
The last error I received was when I tried to login into Live:

https://login.live.com/ppsecure/pos...m/default.aspx&lc=1033&id=23240&bk=1179338213

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't know what else to do at this
point.

I have the stated problem about Certification Error when accessing my
Yahoo!, Gmail and even my bank account after upgrading to Microsoft
Vista. To think that I actually uninstalled Firefox believing that IE7
was good enough.. fortunately Firefox was easily installed and worked
fine.

So that was the easy solution...

Another solution I discovered is to go to Internet Options, "Advance"
Tab. Under Security, uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation*"
and restart IE.

Does that make IE less secure? Probably, but my whole point of using a
browser is to access all those pages Microsoft blocked!

Hope it works for you too. =D

This did not fix your problem, it just pushed it to the background.
Can you provide the specific URLs that you are connecting to.
Also, try turning on revocation checking in Firefox. My guess is that the
same issue is going to occur.

There is something with time, or other that is causing this problem.

Hey all!

I have a "solution" for my certificate problem. I have Norton 360 installed
on my system. 360 employs a "transaction security" scheme. I know that it
interfaces with IE, but - since I didn't write it - I'm not certain how it
works. When I disable transaction security in 360, IE processes certificates
correctly. Not a great solution, actually.

While I doubt everyone on here has 360 installed, I suspect there is
something running that intercepts SSL requests running on each person's
computer. Thoughts?

Hi Brian

I´ve been reading this thread because I have the same problem.I have 2
computers, both configured (my intention at least) in the same way. Vista
ultimate IE 7. And you where requesting som URL. On my laptop I can´t log in
to this webbsite but as you see on my desktop it´s possible. In another
thread on this site one suggestion was to start IE 7 witout add ons. That
works for me on the laptop but I don´t want to do it all the time. Do you
have some suggestion

Mats, this just started happening to me as well and I was extremely
frustrated until I realized it was right after I installed Symantec's Norton
360! If this is the case for you (or possibly a different "flavor" of
Symantec Security), Go to Tools > Manage Add Ons > Enable or Disable Add Ons.
From there, you can then click "Publisher" to group the Symantec Add On's
together and then Disable them. Close and Restart IE and...I hope this does
the trick. I was pretty happy when it worked for me! I'm going to post this
on all the threads that seem to have this problem because it seems to be
pretty widespread and I can't believe there's such a problem with Microsoft
IE & Symantec working together.
