Vista hangs after 2-10 minutes of operation

I have a Thinkpad T61 with 2GB of RAM. I've been running Vista since the
summer with no problems. A couple of days ago, I burned several CDs to
offload some pictures and documents. The last CD appeared to have lots of
trouble but finally ejected after a couple of hours. Since then, every time I
boot Vista and log on, I get about 2-10 minutes of operation before the
system hangs (except the mouse pointer). I have to power off to restart.
Occasionally, I also get the "Logon Process has failed to create the security
options dialog." error message. I have booted into Safe Mode and it appears
to run fine. I have Loaded Last Know Good Configuration. I have removed the
CD/DVD drive. Does any one have any suggestions on what to try next? I will
probably re-seat the memory cards and run a chkdsk.

Well from this, i would tip mamory or HDD failure. You could try to run
memtest and check SMART values of HDD.

I have exactly this same problem. Computer slows to a crawl. control Atl
delete yields failure - security options logon process has failed to create
the seciryt options dialog
Have run complete checkdisk and hard drive tests and everything comes up okay
Anyone at Microsoft have an idea?

Shutting off Aero seems to be the only fix.
