Vista Freezes Randomly

E

Endulini

Hi,

I'm having problems with Vista freezing up randomly, the lock out is total -
no mouse movement and CTRL-ALT-DELETE doesn't respond either. The only
solution is to power off and reboot and go through the 'Windows didn't shut
down properly' routine.

I tried running the System File Checker and this managed 14% of the
verification phase before giving the following message: Windows Resource
Protection could not perform the requested operation.

Has anyone got any good solutions?

Thanks

Try this:
1.Clear the (IE) temporary Internet files and the history cache.
Click 'Start' and then click 'Run'... then type (or copy/paste)
"inetcpl.cpl" (w/out quotation marks) into the box, then click the 'OK'
button.
In Internet Properties panel 'General' tab, under 'Browsing history', click
'Delete...'button, in 'Delete Browsing History' panel, click the 'Delete
all...' button then place a checkmark into the box beside 'Also delete
files and settings stored by add-ons', Click 'Yes' and exit the Internet
Properties panel by clicking the 'OK' button.

2.Clean HDD
Delete files using Disk Cleanup (if on Vista)

Hey there,

You might want to consider checking your hard drive as it sounds like
there is a problem with it, possibly physical damage to the surface. Go to
the manufacturers site and look for a disk checking tool to make sure its
integrity is okay.

Nick.

I have the same problem, starting in about the same time frame, on two vista
computers in seperate environments (one stand alone and one a corporate
network). It usually happens when IE is open but also with Windows Update
and other programs. No solution yet...

Are you running Kaspersky AV?

We are having a similar issue, two Sony Vaio laptops and a Vaio all in one
PC all running Windows Vista intermittently locking up. (Have rebuilt
All-In-One once already)

Call Kasperksy Support and ask them about it. Satisfy yourself that it is
the same issue before proceeding.

Here are the instructions they sent through to us:

The issue you are having is potentially related to tasks running
continuously, using 100% CPU resources. Please look at running through these
steps:-

Step by step instructions:

1. From Administration console delete the task, that caused the
problem (any task that is scheduled to run every 29th, 30th or 31st of the
month).

2. Stop services of Admin Server and NetAgent.

3. Copy kill_tasks_kav6.ini into %Admin Server installation
folder%\Nagent\Data\Cleaner, copy cleanapi.dll into %Admin Server
installation folder%\Nagent (replace the existing file).

4. Start services of Admin Server and NetAgent.

5. Create group or global task (when creating a task choose
Application: Kaspersky Administration Kit, Task Type: Product Deinstallation
Task. On the next step click "Uninstall the external application", and in
the list of applications select "Kill All Scan Tasks of KAV 6.0")

6. Run the remote un-installation task and wait for its completion.

You will also need a link to download two files:

Cleaanapi.dll and kill_tasks_kav6.ini
