Vista Family pack?

A week or so back I saw a report on Cnet or ZDnet or maybe Information Week
that dealt with a Family Pack/Bundle that was being contemplated. According
to the article Microsoft was planning or considering letting family users who
purchased Vista Ultimate to also purchase two copies of Home Premium at a
discounted price of $49.99 per copy for use on their other home computers.

I wonder if that was just someone talking who was not in the know or was it
in fact true? I have not been able to find any other mention of such a sales
package being proposed or actually offered for sale next week.

Does anyone have a comment? I will definitely be buying Ultimate for my
primary computer but I have two others running Windows 2000 that I would like
to put Home Premium on. Information on product configurations and pricing
are so far sparse and in many cases confusing.

You don't buy the "package" in a store. You purchase Vista Ultimate in the
store. Then you contact Microsoft to obtain the 2 keys that will allow you
to install the purchased Vista DVD as Vista HOME Premium (after supplying
your credit card number of course).

From the MS press release: "Before completing the order online, customers
will need to enter one valid full or upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate key from
their retail boxed product. After eligibility is verified online, the
customer can purchase licenses to install Windows Vista Home Premium on one
or two additional Windows-based computers."

So do I take it from the last sentence that the two additional Vista Home
Premium licenses will be "upgrade" licenses instead of "full" licenses?

It doesn't say so don't assume it. Wait until MS posts a FAQ page for the
program.
