Vista does not recognize added RAM

I recently upgraded from 2 GB of RAM to 4 GB of RAM however of this will not
recognize that I have added 2 GB of RAM it still shows 2 GB. The bios shows
4 GB by even reset the bios and restarted the computer several times Windows
list is still refuses to recognize the additional 2 GB of RAM. Of course
Microsoft support for this problem in the knowledge base is nonexistent. If
it was not for the requirements of certain software that I am required to use
I would probably switch to the Linux

You may have to rerun the Performance index testing.. Any time you change
any setting in the bios or hardawre, you must run the test again.

Yes I have done that to several times. It makes no difference Vista only
sees the original 2 GB of RAM. I have restarted and refreshed several times.
I have run discovery several times to to no avail.

You may have to rerun the Performance index testing..

You have to do this to get the amount of RAM to show correctly on the
My COmputer / Properties screen?

I have the same problem, so if you have a fix please let me know and be
specific because I don't know where to find Performance Index that you speak
of.

I have Windows Vista Premium on a Dell 1501 Inspiron.

I replaced X2 512 Ram with X2 1024 Ram.

The system Bios reports:

633 System
1964032 Extended

Windows Vista still reports memory as being 895. (ATI Radeon Xpress Video
Hyper memory takes up 319).

How do I fix this?

Correction. it is Windows Experience Index. Right-Click Computer on the
start menu.> Properties.
Click on the words "Windows Experience Index" and another page comes up.

Yep Microsoft drops the ball again with vista. Perhaps if we all start going
to other newsgroups/discussion boards and telling the rest of the world how
Microsoft is dropped the ball, they may start to get on the ball and fix the
problems they're having. We all know how Microsoft hates bad press.

I've so far seen two different machines which ran fine on XP with 4 GB
of RAM. Both machines had no virtual memory enabled and they saw
nearly all four gigs. Upgrade to Vista, surprise, it only shows 2
gigs.

On one machine I installed Vista 64. THAT only showed 2 gigs.

Support for RAM over 2 gigs is not working in Vista. The operating
system is garbage.

I'll be interested to see if someone solves your problem..... I am
using 4 gb RAM, dual booting x64 and x32. Vista sees all 4gb in x64 and
only 3 in x32, but I do understand the limitations of the 32 bit OS
reserving some of the ram for system devices. Not sure what is causing
your issue, but the OS is not garbage....

I got it!

Type MSCONFIG in the "start search"

Click the BOOT tab

Click the ADVANCED button

Uncheck the box that says "Maximum Memory" ( mine was checked with 2048 ) no
need to set it just uncheck it.

Reboot and you should now see all your memory.
