I have basically the same setup as you. My Raptor is the 74gig model.
When I first installed Vista Ultimate I too noticed allot of disk
action. As we both kbnow it's especially noticeable on these noisy
Raptor's, isn't it!
Anyway it's Vista defraging, indexing and especially superfetch
"learning" your computing habits.

I have been using Raptors since they came out, but this is my first 150 GB
model.
The 150GB models are MUCH louder - just insanely loud, like a loud 15k SCSI
drive.
Its actually so loud I wish I had just gotten another 74GB Raptor.

I have never had a Raptor failure of any kind, and I have them running on
very busy database servers as well.

Anyway it's Vista defraging, indexing and especially superfetch "learning"
your computing habits. It will eventually settle down.
You might also consider increasing your readyboost from 1gig to 2 or 4.

Eventually? I have been running it for 4 months.
I dont mind it doing those things, but it seems it is unable to detect my
idle time to do it - it will do it when I've very busy as well.

Google Desktop, etc doesnt do that.
Theres no reason why the OS should be indexing search while I am playing a
fullscreen graphics-intensive game.
