My i-cable modem (the WAN/Broadband Internet) connects to a TP Link
TLR860 router, which is then connected to a new HP a6126hk desktop PC (with
Traditional Chinese Vista Home Basic), and
a wireless AP (Orinoco RG1000). A seperate new HP520 notebook (with English
Vista Business) connects to the internet/network via wireless. Both HP
computers use the workgroup name 'WORKGROUP'. The HP A6126HK desktop
has a norton internet security software installed (firewall), whereas the
notebook does not. All latest windows/HP update service packs have
been installed. On the surface, it seems both computers can surf the
internet with no problem. But it seems there are some networking problems.
Network sharing has been enabled. It seems both computers can see each
other on the Network. However, if I use the HP a6126hk desktop to
connect and open the public folder of the notebook, after windows
explorer lists the contents of the folder, it'll immediately
crash into blue screen with STOP error. i have already run the pc
doctor and windows memory diagnostic to test, nothing is found. what can i do?

No. Apparently due to the sudden crash event viewer just managed to record
that the computer shutdown abruptly.
The STOP error had the code 0000007
I discovered that it seems it has nothing to do with the wireless AP. If I
connect both computers to the same router, I have the same blue screen
problem.
But if I turn off the Symantec Internet Security features (such as its
firewall), and browse the public folder, the desktop will not crash.
What can I do about this? Inform Symantec to fix their bloody software?

Can you just use windows firewall only?

please let me clearify further:
The blue screen error is a STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80149000,
0x00000000, 0x00000000)
i already went to http://www.symantec.com/windowsvistasupport to apply the
norton add on for its internet security 2007 product, and used its liveupdate
feature to update itself, but it still crashes when listing the contents of
the public folder of the other new HP notebook computer on the network. (The
other notebook also has the latest drivers/service packs installed, and the
folder contains a mixture of english and chinese filenames in 1500 files that
occupies about 3Gb)
I discovered that just turning off the personal firewall is not enough. I
must turn off the 'automatic protection' in the symantec internet security so
that it won't crash into blue screen.

it is possible that without the symantec product and just using windows
firewall, there is no problem
i just talked to a symantec tech support, after following his instructions
to add the other computer's IP address to the trusted site list under the
firewall settings, i can browse the public folder without crashing. so it
seems it is a work around.
however i still feel it is a bad experience to have anything that crashes
windows vista into a blue screen.
