Vista Crash/Freeze from fresh installation -_-;;

After a fresh installation of Vista Home Premium, my pc freezes randomly. If
i decide to wait it out it magically unfreezes but this is a constant habit.
It leaves the pc clock frozen at the time of the freeze. Suprisingly it lets
me play full screen games but nothing else. Reinstalled multiple times,
downloaded all updates with no change. Perhaps my motherboard isnt
compatible? or my graphics card is just dumb? :S any help would be much
appreciated.

You might check in Task Manager to see if one of your cores is spiking to
100% while the other has spare capacity. Make sure to change view to show
both cores and if so, you may be able to change the affinity for some apps
to compensate. Vista has this problem on my machine with many apps running
where XP did a better job of allocating.

Foxconn doesnt really have an updated bios for my motherboard, it has all
sorts of different things i can flash it for but none make any sense to me..
nothing along the lines of a clear useful bios update anyway

I downloaded the "multi meter" gadget for my sidebar, it shows little core
percentage use each and about 50% ram use....

Use what you want, but in task manager I show spikes to 100% that never show
up on Gadgets.

I had issues with the intel chipset drivers causing very similar symptoms -
all solved by a driver update so make sure you have the latest

Thanks for the suggestion. Could you indicate where I can find the intel
chipset drivers?

You DON'T even know if you NEED Intel chipset drivers!! You may have
a non-intel board.

You are in over your head. Take your machine to a competent tech.

Hm. Not really helpfull your remark.

Maybe if you provide more info about your system you'd get more help.

My crystal ball needs polishing so it's not working too well today.

been having the same problem with vista and then windows 7 on the same Foxconn RC4107ma-s2 , thought i had sorted at one point by disabling the onboard audio but no.

XP works fine, but vista and windows 7 get the freeze, even latest Ubuntu suffered the same.

I put a ticket to foxconn and await the result. I'm guessing the bios needs an update that was never made.
My bios reported as : Phoenx Award bios v6, RC410 series 594f1p30 05/29/06
