palmerd,

You have installed Vista and it's running, right? If my reading is correct,
then Vista itself can tell you whether it's having any problems with your
situation.

Open Device Manager (right click Computer, formerly My Computer, and select
Properties and then select Device Manager, upper left). Device Manager will
display any problems you have with your hardware. It will display a yellow
!, or show the words "Unknown Device" or perhaps other indications of
problems. Device Manager will also provide suggested solutions. If Device
Manager displays no problems, then you are good to go, and maybe even a lucky
man.

In addition, you can run some programs to see how they work. Those that
won't run are the problem cases.

Vista provides a report that is good at helping identify problems and
providing solutions to problems. To view this report, click on the Start
icon and open All Programs. Then, select Maintenance and then select Problem
Reports and Solutions. Peruse the various report sections to see whether you
are having any problems and whether it suggests any solutions for them.
