Vista CD ISO's Any available?

S

Skythra

Ill explain the situation here,

I've lost my CD. I've moved 3 times since ive installed it and its gone. I
have the sticker, i have the current installation activated and running. But
i broke my install. Long story short, i broke the network somehow. I know
that you'd think it'd be easier to fix it without a reinstall, but trust me i
tried.

What happens is when i play WC3 or WoW or some other games i get this huge
upload packetloss. In game this causes me to watch everything that happens
around me, but i cant respond, but it queues all my commands and they come
out in a block after the lag.. for example lets say we were chatting, you'd
say something i'd respond we'd be chatting and then i'd suddenly stop
talking. So you keep talking, and i'm queueing responses to a bunch of stuff
you said and 10-30e seconds later you will see maybe 5-10 lines of text that
are now well out of context.

I first thought (as an avid WoW player) that i'd tried one of those registry
hacks. So i checked out what values they added in the registry and found that
no, thats not what i installed. I checked out my tcpip stuff, nothing
unusual. Tried a different network card same problem. Uninstalled all
drivers/deleted all drivers and downloaded from scratch. Nothing.

The thing is, i also have a laptop with vista.. with the exact same problem
(but a 3rd pc on the network with vista without the problem). I gave up on
that laptop because i have the asus OEM cd installer. So i installed vista
again, and the problem stopped. Hell the installation only took like 1 hour
to make it exactly the same as it was when i decided to reinstall.

I figure now ill reinstall my main PC. but I've lost my cd. Sadly most of my
friends dont use vista, so they arent really a source of spare disks.

I found that i can purchase Vista Online from the microsoft site... which
also suggests that i can download a CD Iso. So, somewhere they are possibly
hosting that iso, for people who purchase it. Is it possible to download it
when you have a legit vista install and proof of purchase etc, so i can just
reinstall my vista?

I mean that would be really convenient. From my theory, the cd shouldnt
really be the problem, even if people download it if you make it a 3 day
trial before activation nothing could possibli go wrong.

Anyway if anyone just has some idea's about solving either the CD problem or
the network it would be appreciated!

Sorry if i wasnt specific, the OEM was for the laptop, my main pc is just a
retail version. I only mentioned OEM because i couldnt use it on the main PC

Any reputable shop should not make you a copy of the disk.
All retail DVDs clearly state not to make illegal copies of this disk on the
front face of the DVD.
Irrespective of the license being used to install the software - a PC shop
may not make an unauthorized duplicates of Microsoft product media

On the other hand just plain using their media to install on my computer
should not be a worry.

At all.

Just requires some back breaking effort to carry my case in (which is
currently watercooled) and using their stuff to install.

Also a reputable store will have access to the subscription download of the
cd images.

M

Mike Brannigan

Subscription Downloads are for use by the subscriber only under the strict
terms of the subscription program such as MSDN, TechNet, Open, Select etc
etc.
Even if they were a licensee of a program that provides them with ISOs for
download they would not be in a position to provide you with one (and also
many of the ISOs for download require program specific keys for activation).

If this is a retail media issue and the links provided so far are not
satisfactory then just ring your local Microsoft subsiduary and talk to
them about getting a replacement part (you will be required to provide proof
of purchase)

So mike, what do you suggest?

You are filled with problems apparently.

I however was asking for a real solution.

You mentioned an OEM dvd for another machine. If you are talking about a
Microsoft hologrammed OEM dvd and not a restore or recovery dvd then you can
use that OK. As long as you have a retail product key you will be fine
using it with an OEM dvd. Unlike XP OEM media, Vista OEM media are
identical to Vista retail media except for the hologramming. I have used an
OEM pack dvd to perform an upgrade in place using an upgrade edition product
key, which was something XP OEM media did not support.

yeah unfortunately it seems to be a asus i guess you'd call recovery cd

Then you need to find someone with a retail dvd that you can get a copy
from. The product key on the computer case is a fallback pk and not the one
Acer used to preinstall the OS. The pk on the case should work with a
standard Vista dvd. It will require phone activation.
