i burnt a cd with windows vista and it said burning was successfull. it was
about 200 mbs of data. when the cd ejected i reinserted it. now windows
explorer shows that 200mbs of cd space is used but when i open the cd it is
empty. infact, any auto play option to burn audio cd with windows media
player also pops up.

please help.

Did you "finalize" (close out) the CD? When doing so it writes the TOC
(table of contents) on the CD. Without this you will not be able to see what
is on the disk.

This is why many, including myself, use a commercial burning program that
includes the likes of Drag-To-Disk (Roxio) or InCD (Nero). Using these added
utilities the CD/DVD can be treated as another hard disk when using them for
data storage. Single files can be added or deleted at will. A half filled
disk can be temporarily closed and the files will still be visible (on the
computer that laid them down). After you finish filling the disk a week or 2
later you finalize it.

To use the disk on another computer you still have to finalize the disk for
compatibility or you will get the same problem you are experiencing now.

hi Richard. I did not finalize the cd. however it worked. after a few
minutes I reinserted the cd and it showed me the contents. thanks anyway,
now I plan to use Nero.

can anyone please explain why there are no good CD/DVD writers in Vista ? I
undersand the whole issue about offering everything and not leaving anything
out for competition, like they raised on Internet Explorer, Outlook Express,
and other Windows "add-ons" in the past, but come on, there should be a
decent solution at least in Vista Ultimate, once you are paying more for it.

Just what I think,
