Vista and iTunes

This is supposed to bethe latest and greatest Windows OS software?
Jeez after 3 hours, all of the things I would expect to work, DON"T. I
have 3600 iTunes that I have either purhcased or imported into iTunes,
but everything asks for my username and password. What a piece of
crap. What the hell did I upgrade for?? Oh yeah, wanted to spend
several hundred dollars to have MS manage my music or porn. If I
could go back to XP I would!!!

You already have had a response pointing out that you re-installed your OS.
Apple's DRM treats it as a new PC. Simply enter your user name and
password. Then click Play and sit back and stare at the visualization and
relax.

Did you upgrade from XP to Vista? Many iTunes users who upgraded from XP
to Vista have reported problems with permissions when playing purchased
music, ranging from repeated Apple ID requests to purchased music not
playing at all. Apple has traced the problem, and discovered that the XP-
to-Vista upgrade process somehow munged up the permissions that iTunes
needs to play purchased music. A tool to repair this problem is available
from Apple:

iTunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunesrepairtoolforvista10.html

Also, look at this Apple Technical Bulletin for other issues regarding
iTunes and Windows Vista:

HTH. HAND. :)

Tool didn't work for me. I upgraded from XP-Pro to Vista Ultimate.

Ouch. >_< My sincere condolences.

Here's hoping Apple pushes out a Vista-compatible version of iTunes ASAP.

I also upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. iTunes and my iPod
(80gb) are working perfectly, as is Cucusoft iPod Video Converter
Suite that I use to convert DVDs with for my iPod.

"Compatible"? Yeah, right. The fact is, iTunes runs just fine under Vista,
with ONE exception: ANY files you downloaded from the Store will NOT run
properly. Why? For a simple reason: Apple has NOT released a "PlayFair"
DRM for Vista. MP3s work just fine. Even MP1/MP2 videos will run properly.
But MP4s and AACs (protected or not) will not work correctly. Apple's
so-called "fix" for Vista does absolutely NOTHING for Vista users, except to
make them look good in the eyes of their Board.

Apple CLAIMS that they will release a Vista-capable version of their DRM
software. I will believe it only when I see it in action.

Why Apple wasn't ready for the general release of Vista is easy to figure
out: They TRULY did not believe Vista would EVER be released, so did not
prepare for it. Now they are stuck with their "fashionable" chinos down
around their ankles, and egg on their faces, and millions of angry Windows
iTunes users and iPod owners breathing down their necks.

You better hurry up, Apple, or those Windows users are going to change to
URGE and Media Player 11.

Glen --
Thanks so much for the below info you provided. I've been searching,
uninstalling, reinstalling, etc ever since I installed Vista trying to get
iTunes back in order. Worked like a charm. It's too bad I couldn't find
this info myself on iTunes. Maybe I'm just a ditz?! I've finally got it
back thanks to you. Instead of griping, you responded. Nice to see your
attitude. ;-)

Sorry to pop your bubble, but I reinstalled iTunes when I did a clean
install of Vista using a System Builder Kit.
I am also unable to play some of my purchased music: all videos I purchased
from iTunes, all videos I've created myself, even after using this "tool"
from Apple.

In addition, QuickTime Pro is completely non-functional even for .mov files.

Ummmm.. Apple suggests not using iTunes in Vista until they come out with a
new version. Just thought you'd want to know.

Then I must be a reckless daredevil, because I'm using iTunes 7.0.2.16 just
fine under Vista Ultimate. Purchased music plays just fine, and I was able
to update my iPod without serious problems. I just followed Apple's
recommendations in the aforementioned technical bulletin as a precaution.

But I do plan on checking periodically to see if Apple does release a
Vista-compatible version. Odd that didn't do so before Vista's launch.
(Same for QuickTime, Bonjour for Windows, and a couple of their other
Windows apps.)

Thanks for the reminder, Dale. But this news has been floating around the
web for a few days, now.

I guess you're just one of those "lucky" ones, Glen. The rest of us are mad
as hornets at Apple right now.
Apple has had since October to prepare for Vista.

I am really getting more and more steamed at Apple.
The fact is, Windows users are the ones who are pumping up the iTunes and
iPod sales figures, yet we are the ones left out in the cold. How ironic.
And how EVIL.. In addition, Windows users are the ones who have been
pumping up the Apple Computer sales figures.

And the Mac-Bois have the unmitigated GALL to blame this on Microsoft!!!

Get with it, Stevie-boi. Windows users are notoriously fickle. We could
all turn away from you in a heart-beat. So HURRY UP with this "fix" so we
can get what we paid for.

iTunes working for me on Vista. I don't have an iPod, so I disable
the iPod service ( Start Mode = 4 ). I've used it at least 6-7 times
with downloads from the iTunes store and had no issues with it.
Maybe the only variable is that prior to downloading/installing it I
already had a Pro version of QuickTime running on my Vista instance.

no problem here with itunes and vista ultimate, with 30gig ipod video
and a lot of music and video purchased with itunes store.
