Virus scanning message in status bar

I'm really not interested in disabling virus scan in Word, but I do get the
"running virus scan" message in the status bar often when I'm working in
Word. I see here that you can disable some plugins:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919047 . I see the reason for doing a virus
scan for docs as they open, as sometimes macro viruses can't be detected by
the "traditional" virus scan--at least that's what I've been told. Is there
anything else I can do, as I'd rather not disable the feature itself?

The virus scan message comes from the AV software and has nothing to do with
Word. If you have your macro security set to Medium or High, macros in
documents cannot be run without your permission, so such virus checking is
superfluous and often gets completely in the way - as is the case with
NortonAV's intrusive Office plug-in. So either disable it or live with the
inconvenience.

OK Thanks. I was just worried that it was something malfunctioning within
Word itself. It didn't generate a slowdown, so much as (the message) just
stay there in the status bar.
