Virus scanner with Windows 98

Any recommendations for a virus scanner that:

(a) is efficient and effective with Windows 98, and

(b) allows an update file to be backed out after being installed?

Background: I've used McAfee VirusScan for years, and have been mostly
happy with it. Occasionally, though, one of its "dat" files crashed my
computer. Since I downloaded the dat files manually, I could go
back to one that was ok. But from other postings in this newsgroup, I get
the impression that current versions of VirusScan don't allow this. And
with Windows 98, the OS doesn't help back out. So I'm looking at
alternatives.

Thanks!

Thanks!

AVG has a small enough fottprint for w98 and grisoft provide manual
downloads of updates for those who experience problems with automatic
updating.

I have recently switched to eTrust ezAntivirus (from Computer
Associates), and it appears to run really well in Windows 98SE.

I don't think it has the option of "backing out" though.

But I notice from their web site that "all AVG FREE updates are
differential updates from version 516." With this approach is it still
possible to back out an update if the update causes trouble? Has anybody
out there done this?
