virus scan is blocking me from sending mail

Guest

I just got a new laptop for graduation and I am using Windows Mail. Everytime
i try to send an email i get this message from my virus scan:

One or more e-mail messages cannot be sent.

After you verify the format of your recipient addresses, McAfee recommends
that you resend those messages from your e-mail program.

it tells me that the domain is not in my rcpthosts.

does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Turn off both incoming and outgoing email scanning in the AV program. It
offers you no additional protection as along as an AV scanner is resident.
And while you're at it, get rid of McAfee. There are much better and less
problematic AV programs such as Avast and AVG (both free), NOD32 or
Kaspersky.

Please wait while we find a technician to assist you...
You have been connected to Andrea Andrews.
Andrea Andrews: Hello Paul, thank you for contacting McAfee. My name is Andrea.
Andrea Andrews: Your case number for this chat session is 13222085.
Andrea Andrews: How can I assist you with your McAfee software today?

Paul Douglas: On my outgoing email, I often get an error message. Here is an example:
Paul Douglas: "E-mail scanning encountered a problem: This e-mail message cannot be sent. After you verify
Paul Douglas: the format of your recipient address, McAfee recommends that you resend those messages from
Paul Douglas: your e-mail program. Command sent: RCPT TO: <[email protected]>

Andrea Andrews: Do you receive this message when sending plain e-mails or e-mails with attachments?

Paul Douglas: Command received: 550 relaying mail to sbcglobal.net is not allowed"
Paul Douglas: Sorry, no attachments involved

Andrea Andrews: That's fine. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Paul Douglas: Plain e-mail

Andrea Andrews: Since when have you been experiencing this issue?

Paul Douglas: Since I installed PC Protection Plus (3 user license for my wife)
Paul Douglas: Just this week June 1, 2007

Andrea Andrews: Do you use Outlook or Outlook Express?

Paul Douglas: Outlook Express

Andrea Andrews: Paul, I understand that, you get an error message '"E-mail scanning encountered a problem: This e-mail message cannot be sent.' often when you try to send out plain e-mails without attachments using Outlook Express. Is that correct?

Paul Douglas: Yes. This was not a problem with Security Suite 7 which I replaced with PC Protection Plus

Andrea Andrews: Thank you for the confirmation.
Andrea Andrews: Did the McAfee PC Protection Plus software come on a CD or was it a download from the Internet?

Paul Douglas: Download

Andrea Andrews: Double click on the 'M' icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen to open McAfee SecurityCenter.

Paul Douglas: OK done

Andrea Andrews: Please click on 'View Details' on the bottom right hand corner of the window.

Why did you post this here?
Outlook Express fixes are generally not applicable to Windows Mail.
It does illustrate that McAfee's firewall is a POS since it had to
be manually configured to let mail through.
