Virus causing this error?

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I just re-install XP again for user within C Drive, and keep all existing
documents within D drive. I try to use housecall to scan for virus, but it
idles forever without performing any scan. Without touching any document
within D drive, there is no error, after user uses it for 30 minutes, it
comes up with explorer.exe error, which is caused by faultre.dll.
Application Error - explorer.exe, AppVer:6.02900.3158, fail module: unknown,
wrong address 0x00b709cd, please check
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp for details. When I look into
Event, there is another error coming from Source: LoadPerf, ID:3001, plus
more error.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to save this PC?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Are you sure it is "faultre.dll" and not "faultrep.dll"? The former is a
trojan, the latter is a legitimate Windows file.

As you've been told before, you need to scan the data on the D:\ partition
more thoroughly - not using Housecall but using better tools which have
already been suggested to you many times - OR you need to stop messing
about with this and completely wipe the computer. That means deleting both
partitions, creating new ones if you want a D:\partition, and formatting.
The data on D:\ is compromised and without scanning it thoroughly to find
out which files are infected you will never have a clean machine.

Get an outside computer tech in to do the work if you can't. Don't use
someone from a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place.

Please post a complete copy of the Event Viewer error report.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
