Virtual system

I'm looking to explore the use of a virtual system on my testbed laptop,
to test out OS's and programs. I'm aware of MS Virtual PC, Sandboxie,
and VirtualBox but I have yet to try any of them. I'm running XP Home on
the testbed so I believe that rules out Virtual PC? Can I do this with a
virtual system?
What I want to do is to try out Windows 7 to start with so will either
Virtual Box or Sandboxie do this? I did start to install VirtualBox but
backed out when it said it was going to alter my network settings. Is
that a permanent change or only for the period while VirtualBox is
running, ie, when I close it, the network settings revert back to
'normal'?
Thanks.

I hope you are pursing this on a computer that if you end up having to
completely reinstall Windows from scratch, it will not be a problem
for you.

The is no reason why MS virtual PC won't work. MS says its optimized
for Vista, but it also says it works on XP and I know about 4 people
that have it. Including me on 2 PC.s I've got it on a 2 ghz laptop
running Win7 on it. Its a bit sluggish but it does work! Also loaded
win98se for the heck of it. Now that runs like a champ.

And I've removed it too and moved the whole deal to my desktop for more
power.

That sounds good news! I'll try Virtual PC then.

I'm curious. Are your PCs that you installed VPC 2007 in XP Pro or Home?
They don't list Home as an OS it will run on.
