Never used VPC before.
I know someone running Vista & they would like to change to XP.
Can I install VPY then install XP on their system using the regular CD?

It's providing difficult finding drivers for some of their hardware, i'd
like to be able to install XP in VPC & then try out different drivers,
then install XP proper when I'm satisfied I have the correct ones.

USB devices will not work with VPC.

If that's the case how come my USB mouse works with ubuntu 7.04 under
VPC2007 ?

To the OP - as a try out scenario - yes it will work to an extent (how much
of an extent I'm not sure - but can't hurt to try)

I believe its using it a serial mouse.. the real USB mouse is not connected
to the virtual pc, but on your real pc.. then that is translated to a serial
mouse...

why use virtual pc which is a Microsoft joke??
Vmware server or even
Virtual Box

are all free and very good.. far better than virtual pc...

another solution is to use vmware free player in combination with
easyvmx.com

Could it be that mouse support is provided by the motherboard's "legacy USB
support"?

The PC emulated won't be the hardware that you physically own. It
emulates everything, including the motherboard.

Testing this way is pointless, IMHO.

Actually I switched over to VB a few hours back... got fed up trying to get
VPC to work.
