Virtual Memory?

B

Ben

I have a problem with Windows XP running on a Toshiba
laptop with 14GB free and 256MB ram. Everytime I switch
the PC on and try to go to normal mode, safe mode, or last
known good I get an error telling me I don't have enough
virtual memory and it's going to do something about it.

Except it doesn't I get blank dialog boxes, runtime
errors, nothing helpful.

Help!

Hi,

How much free space do you have on the drive? Sounds like there is either a)
insufficient free space for the pagefile to expand or b) an upper limit has
been set on the size of the pagefile.

Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on performance settings. Go to the
change button on the advanced tab and disable the pagefile. Reboot, see if
pagefile.sys exists on the hard drive, if so delete it. Then reverse the
steps to restart the pagefile and reboot once more. If the free space
available is limited, and the pagefile cannot increase in size sufficiently
to accomodate the startup load, then you will need to see about trimming
that back. 14GB can fill up quickly on a WinXP system.
