I get a out of virtual memory error message about half the
time I log onto my machine the other half of the time I
have to hit ctrl, alt, delete to log in. I have tried
reseting the virtual memory setting and have incressed my
memory to 512 meg.I have a 40 gig hard drive with 28 gig
free and I defrag about twice a month. How can I fix this
problem.
Thanks
..

Is it your RAM you have increased to 512 MB, or is it the size of the pagefile?

To get rid of the error message, you should increase the size of the
pagefile. To do this, see:
www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sysdm_advancd_perform_change_vmpagefile.mspx

If it doesn't help you, increase it some more. And if it still doesn't help,
then you have do less multitasking.

Find out which processes are running in the background and close them. Run
msconfig (open the start menu, choose run, type "msconfig" and press enter
(no quotation marks)) and decheck all the programs you don't need on the
Start-tab (in my opinion it's about 75% of the stuff that finds it way in
here when you install new programs. If you're not sure what they do, you'll
have to get more help, because you don't want to disable your antivirus and
the few other important programs which are being run from here (here is
actually two places in the registry).

Try opening system properties, virtual memory, set to:let windows manage
From the custom setting its probably in,then click set 2X,close-out,re-
start computer.Increasing ram would help too.
