Virgin page layout?

How do I set the default Word document to be a basic word processing
document that doesn't assume things like numbering paragraphs automatically
(if my paragraph starts with a roman numeral as soon as I hit the enter key
Word assumes that I want the next paragraph to start with the next roman
numeral) or any of the other preordained stuff Bill has programmed in there.
