Viewing movie in presentation

My previous version of powerpoint allowed you to view the first frame of the
inserted movie. It looked like a picture on the screen until you clicked it.
This allowed the audience to view the first frame as a still while I
explained the movie.
When I insert my movies now they are a black box until I click and start the
movie.
How can I get the movie to show on the screen before showing the movie?

PowerPoint captures the first frame of the movie. There may be another
reason, but most likely the new movies start with black (fairly common) and
your black box, really is an image of the start of the movie (which just
happens to be black).
