Viewing awd files in Windows 2000

We recently set up a win 98 pc to receive faxes into
Outlook. They are received as .awd files and viewed with
Fax Viewer. Some of these faxes need to be forwarded to
win 2000 systems running the same version of Outlook.
However, the win 2000 systems do not support .awd files.
Has anyone discovered an easy solution to this problem?

Microsoft wrote an AWD->TIFF converter that will let you convert these files
so you can view them in Windows XP. This converter shold be on the Windows
2000 CD. Look under i386\win9xmig\fax\ for a file called "awdvstub.exe."
Copy this file to your hard drive and run it from a command prompt with the
'/c' option to convert an AWD file to a TIFF file. You can also associate
AWD files with it. After you do, double clicking an AWD file will convert
the file and open it in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. For the utility
to run correctly you must also have a copy of "fxstiff.dll" on your hard
drive, usually in the Windows\system32 folder and/or the
Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 folder. Normally that DLL will be in
place already if you've installed the Windows XP Fax Program.

Also, some third party utilities such as PolyView support opening and
converting AWD files (http://www.polyview.com )

Thank you. I copied the file to a folder and associated
the .awd with the awdvstub.exe program so that the
conversion would be automatic and it worked. I could not
find the fxstiff.dll file you mentioned but didn't seem to
need it.

So, again -- Thank you! Your assistance is greatly
appreciated.
