viewer autorun problem

newbie

I am trying to use the autorun feature in powerpoint
viewer to autorun a file called overview.pps

I saved a file called autorun.inf in notepad which
included the following:
[autorun]
open=pptview.exe /s /l overview.pps

I then saved a play.bat file in notepad which includes:
@pptview.exe / s /l overview.pps

When i run play.bat it tells me file size is too large for
powerpoint viewer. I can however run it on powerpoint
viewer directly by opening it. What am I doing wrong?

One thing I see that is wrong is the "/l" switch. That tells the Viewer
that the file name that follows is a play list, which is incorrect. Remove
the /l.

What version of PowerPoint are you using and how did you insert the sound
files? Did you use Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File?

my apologies for not following the etiquette - thanks for
pointing it out. I did use insert>movies and sounds>sounds
from file. I then used the pack and go feature to put in
in a folder.

That's the problem then. You say that you are using pptview.exe, which is
the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer (PPVIEW32.EXE is the old Viewer). The PowerPoint
2003 Viewer won't play your sounds. There is a bug in the new Viewer and it
doesn't correctly recognize media files inserted in a presentation created
in PowerPoint 97 or PowerPoint 2000.You need to use the PowerPoint 97 Viewer
at http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Ppview97.aspx

Sonia, thanks that makes sense. I managed to get it to run
clicking on the play.bat file by making it use the old
viewer. the problem now is that when i burn it to cd i
must be missing some of the files needed to run the viewer
as it keeps missing files or not running. I did manage to
find a full list of viewer97 files on the MS web site as
some of them go to the system folders etc. thanks again
for all the help. any shortcuts to this?
