View Thumbnails

Can I view thumbnails as previews outside of the picture gallery. Currently I
get generic icons, not previews. (other than in picture gallery)

I store pictures (.jpeg, etc.) in various folders on my desktop but when
viewed they only show a generic picture unless I open them or put them in the
picture gallery. Thanks

Yeah. Same here. The thumbnails for any of the pictures don't show up unless
you open them up in the Picture Gallery. I'd like to know what settings you
need to fix this! I want preview pictures for thumbnails -- not generic
pictures of the file type.

Try right clicking on the folder then select properties.
On the Customize tab select Pictures and Videos as the template.

Thanks for the input Mac but unfortunately it didn't work. The existing
settings were just as you suggested. You had my hopes up though. Thanks again.

In Windows Explorer...
Organize - Folder and Search Options - View - UNcheck "Always show icons,
never thumbnails"

If you have Windows Explorer set to show icon under view you get
thumbnails a page full at a time.

In Windows Explorer, click Organize/Layout and select the Preview Pane
option. When you select a picture file or video, you should see it appear in
that preview pane on the right side of the window.
