View the network w/out joining the domain

Hi,
I don't know if it's possible. Is there a way to view my network without
joining the domain?
I think I try that before I reinstall XP Pro. I was part of a Workgroup,
and I can see the network. After I reinstall XP, I have to join the domain
in order to see the network.
Right now, I'm part of a Workgroup, when I try to see the network (double
clicking the network folder), it's not expanding or asking for user name and
password.

Does anyone know why? Thanks ahead.

If you make your computer a member of a workgroup, with the name identical to
that of the domain, your computer will use a domain browser and you'll be able
to view the servers on the network. Or, if you have a browser server in your
workgroup, it should show you the domain servers under Entire Network.
