View file extensions

Hi:

On XP, how do I set a folder so that I can see the file EXTENSIONS? I have a problem that
some video files play, and some do not. I suspect that its associated with the file
extensions, but cant for the life of me figure out how to see what they are. I am new to
XP having hung in with W98 for years.

thanks

In Windows Explorer go to the Tools Menus then Folder Options and then View.
The check box is in the Advance Settings frame.

Go to tools/folder options
click on the view tab
uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
click apply
click ok

To add to the other replies the ones which won't play probably don't have
the needed codec/s installed on your PC.
Download Gspot, it's free, drag the file which won't play into it and it
will tell you which codecs you need.
