View contents of an incremental Ghost image?

G

Gerhard Fiedler

Hello,

does anybody know how I can view the contents of an incremental Ghost
image? When I look at the image with Ghost in the normal way, I see the
base image plus the incremental images. I'd like to see which files got
saved in a particular incremental image. Is this possible? Does it make
sense, the way the images are created?

Thanks,
Gerhard

Presumably the date stamp of the individual
files inside the image should tell you.

Are you talking about Ghost 9?

Yes.

Probably they would... but I have a few thousand directories and even more
files, and when I open an incremental image of a disk with the Ghost 9
image browser, I see the complete directory tree. So in order to know which
files are stored in the incremental image, I would have to look at each
single directory and manually write down the files above a certain
date/time threshold.

I was hoping for a more straightforward way to see /only/ the folders/files
in the incremental image. The Ghost 9 image browser doesn't seem to provide
this option; is there maybe a 3rd party tool for this?

BTW, can you believe that Symantec's Ghost 9 image browser bypasses the
Windows keyboard driver? I use a keyboard driver with the Dvorak layout,
but when I'm in the Ghost 9 image browser, my keyboard is back to normal
QWERTY.

Thanks,
Gerhard

Just sort on date and use the datestamp on the image
files as the cutoff data for a particular increment.

You can if you sort on date.

Yes it does on the sorting.

Havent noticed one, but then I've given up on Ghost 9 anyway,
I use True Image instead, leaves Ghost 9 for dead.

Nothing would surprise me with Symantec shit.

I wouldnt be surprised if it raped the cat either.

Giant leap back for Gerhardkinder |-)

This sounds as if there was a way to list the files of all directories
(sort of a "flat view"), so that I can sort all of them. The way I see the
files in the image browser, I see them one directory at a time.
Yes it does on the sorting.

You sound so sure...

What are the major advantages you see for True Image over Ghost?

Is there something I should know about this ("Gerhardkinder")?

Its just so much more capable. You can create an image using
the booted CD, you cant with Ghost 9, you have to install it first.
Thats very desirable for a safety image before working on a system.

TI9 now has full standard backup as well as image ops.

TI is significantly less buggy, tho not perfect.

Support is much better with a decent forum which has
Acronis reps reading and commenting when appropriate.

Nope, that was a joke, Joyce.
