View 'Broken hyperlinks' in Frontpage 2003 disregards "../" and "../.." etc

Peter J. Veger

Frontpage 2003 > View Site Report > Broken Links show all internal links to
stylesheets on my site as broken (though the site works as expected).

I use almost exclusively relative links, and extensively ".." to indicate
the parent directory, e.g

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href=
"../../_stylesheets/default.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="../../_scripts/main_load.js"></script>
<img src="../images/ship.jpg" />
<a href="../news/latest.asp">

The Frontpage report shows the stylesheet links ad follows:

Broken | _stylesheet/pzv.css | etc

although the pages contain "../_stylesheet/pzv.css"

I was unable to reproduce your results.

Are all these files in the same FrontPage Site?

They all belong to one Frontpage subsite.
(Note that the site serves the pages correctly, through the browser there
are no problems.)

The main site and other subsites do not have the problem.
A "backup" subsite (about one month old) also is OK.

The subsite with the problem is regularly published to an webhosting site.
The (sub)sites over there all are OK.

The problem only affects the stylesheet links (link and @import).

Strange, isn't it?

Have you tried Recalculate Hyperlinks?

Yes, I did (and do regularly.)
I also stopped & started IIS.
Stopped and started the whole system.
To no avail.
(I don't think it helps, but: WinXP Pro, IIS 5.1, uptodate)
(And, your books are excellent...)

What happens if you:

1. Right-click one of the "broken" css hyperlinks.
2. Choose Edit Hyperlink.
3. Click Browse.
4. Select the correct file.
5. Click OK and Replace.

I cannot execute your test: this morning, I started Frontpage, saw the long
list of "wrong" _stylesheet references, and then, suddenly, they evaporated
before my eyes.
I had done nothing at all... Strange world..

Thanks for your care,
Peter Veger
