Every since I re-installed my windows I have been having major problems with my video playback. I have updated all my windows media player upto number 10. My Gcard drivers are upto date as are my sound card drivers. When I play a video my computer freezes up or at least goes at snails pace which means i am unable to do anything else till I can get the task manager up to close WMP down before my PC returns to normal. During this slow down my screen can flash black several times until the screen stays black for about 30 seconds before it slowly comes back. I even have this problem when I put a DVD into my DVD drive to play it, my whole system freezes up. But places like youtube.com I have no trouble seeing the videos as they run smooth, but places like ebaums world I cannot as it freezes my PC.

This is driving my mad can anyone suggest a solution? :(

Here is my Hijackthis logfile if it helps......

Well, your Internet Explorer is not uptodate for one ... Go to windows update and use the custom button.

Running two anti-virus programs at the same time is asking for problems ... not surprised to see the PC run sloow there ... Norton is a bugger for that.

I strongly advise you remove / un-install RegistryBooster or at least get HJT to 'fix' it ...
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Uniblue Registry Booster] D:\Program Files\BitComet\Downloads\Registry.Booster.v1.1.Win ALL.CRACKED-iNDUCT\CRACK\RegistryBooster.exe /S

fix also ...
O16 - DPF: {30528230-99F7-4BB4-88D8-FA1D4F56A2AB} (YInstStarter Class) - http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yah...nst20040510.cab
or un-install Yahoo's junk

don't know what this is, but I would 'fix' it also ...
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1

apart from that, your log is clean. :)

As for "video" problems, I cannot say, apart from Norton ... you don't list one detail of your PC ... you either have a heap of junk, not enough memory, slow processor or a crap video card.

I can tell you the reason you can view YouTube video's is that they are hosting the video, not you ... so it is actually playing on their PC, not yours. ;)

Hello again, I didn't scare you off with my sarcasm & whit then. ;)

You'll have to take me as I am today ... one of my Linux PCs needs a new master, me. Nearly the same spec as you have there. :)

You really do need to update IE ... better still, go get Firefox, it is a lot more secure to browse the Web with.

You have a "left-over" from Housecall, not a worry, but should be 'fixed' just to tidy things up ...
O16 - DPF: {215B8138-A3CF-44C5-803F-8226143CFC0A} (Trend Micro ActiveX Scan Agent 6.5) - http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/h...ivex/hcImpl.cab

Apart from that, your log is clean of any nasties. :thumb:

I see you removed Norton ... well done. ;)

Is the PC any quicker?

There are other area's where you can help ... a good start is to empty out the Startup Folder of all, or most, programs ... Start/All Programs/Startup ... anything there can be 'dragged out' or just deleted, best to drag them out and plonk them on the desktop for a while, then if all is OK, bung 'em in the Bin. There will be other ways to 'start' them up anyway.

'bout all I can do for now ... turn off any 'bells-n-whistles' in XP will help a little.
