Videos look pixelated and bad

I often take video with my Sony HandyCam and then upload it into Windows
Movie Maker. This worked perfectly for a long time. Then one day the videos
started having a really weird, pixelated appearance. The sound is fine. The
camera is fine. I have put in a new tape and so it's not the tape. The
video plays back fine on the TV and on the little video camera screen. But
when I do the video capture it immediately looks really bad. My son said it
looked like the program was "trying to compress" the video for some reason.
Can anyone help me? I hope I explained this right.

Have you used a cleaning tape on your Sony HandyCam? I have seen that with
my Sony HandyCam and cleaning corrected the problem. Good Luck.
