Video file location

I am using PPT 2000. I am having a weirdo with inserting video files.

I have converetd several files to Windows Media Video File format using
Windows Movie Maker. These I put into the PPT file using Insert Movie from
file. No problems so far.

When I come to run the presentation and play the movie then it will play if
the file is located in the "My Videos" folder or a subfolder thereof. It
will not run if the file was located anywhere else. And no, I have not
moved the file between insertion and playing.

This seems to be saying to me that the file format and codec etc are just
fine (otherwise it would not play from any location) but is due to the file
location mapping. And, yes I have looked at Austin Myer's excellent
guidelines.

... any suggestions?
TIA
Chris

Thanks. That does seem to be the problem.
I have tried movimg things about and find that it will accommodate a full
path (incl file name and extension) of 156 characters but not as big as 165.
The real bummer here is that it will insert, and show the first frame, in
edit mode files with long paths but will not play them And it does not seem
to matter if the video file is in the same directory as the powerpoint
file - it works (or doesn't!) on the full path length.

Anyway I now have a workaround thanks to your "guess".

Many thanks.
Chris
