Video Driver

I need to install a driver for my display, but in my display properties,
Adapter Type is blank and in Adapter Information everything says unavailable.
When I click on properties it says VGASave - VGA Display Controller, and on
the Driver tab it doesn'y give me a choice to install an updated driver. I
tried through Add new Hardware, but it gave me a Code 10 error. I used an
old Hard Drive and loaded Windows on it and everything worked so I know the
mainboard display works.

Have you installed the chipset drivers for the motherboard? Sometimes you
can't install the display drivers before the chipset drivers are installed.

The chipset drivers were automatically installed by XP, and I also went to VIA's website and got the latest one.

Did your system come with a CD containing utilities and drivers? If it did, insert that
CD, and install the display adapter driver from there. If not, then go to the web site of
the maker of your system, click the support link, find the support for YOUR system model
(you will probably need the model number of your system and/or the serial number of your
system, which should be located on the back of the tower unit). You will probably see
options for downloading drivers by category, and then the name of and download file for
the display adapter for your particular system.

I do have the disk, and I got the driver from the mainboard manufacturer, and
both say "Setup was unable to complete theinstallation." When I check the
details in the log file it says "Update Driver failed - Can not install". As
I mentioned I also tried to force it through the Add New Hardware and it gave
me a Code 10 error.

Is it possible that you updated to SP2, and the driver is not SP2 compatible? Did the old
drive that worked have SP2 installed?
