Video casrd sharing my system ram

Is there a way to stop the system from sharing its ram with the video card?
Just curious.

That is typical and necessary for some computers.
Without the sharing, the video would have no memory since the onboard
video has no memory of its own.

A solution might be to get a video card with the amount of video
memory you need then the RAM will not be shared.

I do. My card has 256mb of video ram. When I looked in the display
properties it said it had 256mb of dedicated ram and 833mb of shared ram. I
have 2.5gb of system ram and it is using a big chunk that I would rather go
to programs. Of course, if I was playing a game I would want the extra ram
but I don't play games often.

Look in your BIOS settings. That's usually where shared RAM is allocated.
(When you boot the PC, there should be a key listed to access the BIOS or
system settings. Usually have to mash that key pretty quickly or you'll miss
the entry point.)

Yes he did.
But I was not going to ASSUME as you seemed.
Many people refer to a video card when in fact they have on board
video.
Many do not know or even recognize there is a difference.
I have read that many times hers, apparently you have not.

In any case, the OP clarified and got an answer, something you seemed
unable to even try.
