Have a friend thats 90% blind who wants to hook up his HP Pavilion 9680C so
he can use it for his computer monitor, his TV is a Sanyo 43 inch. Any
recommendations for a solid PCI card thats not too expensive and can connect
by S-video? The guy is nearly helpless yet refuses aid or any type
assistance and uses it to work out of his home.

The resolution on a TV is so bad that this approach is not too likely to
help much. There are programs which will magnify portions of the display on
a standard monitor, which has much better resolution. Check Google under
"low vision" for some ideas. If you want to try the TV there are many
PCI cards with video output. The S-video may not help much in this
application. It just separates the chroma and luminance inputs, and
does nothing to improve the inherent poor resolution of the TV set.

- AGP card will be cheaper and more likely to do the job.
- DVI connector to something with DVI input (big screen TV, plasma) will
provide a decent output.
- Even SVideo on a TV is terrible for a computer unless all you do is play
games. 640x480 may be acceptable if this is a high end TV.

OOps, My friend needs an AGP card not a PCI card.

All 250 FREE operating systems that are NOT Microsoft, have an option to
hit 'control-alt-+ or -' to increase/decrease the resolution through the
four stages of magnification on the monitor.

Another reason that I recommend the FREE OSes! http://distrowatch.com
has the top 100 OSes for free download!

My preferred Knoppix distro lets you boot, run, from the CDrom! Test it
out on any computer!
