HI hope someone can help me. I am completely computer illiterate and have
found myself at a loss when this came up on screen this morning. ' this cant
run because it requires a newer video card or one thats compatible with
direct 3D' Can someone please explain what this is, where i get one and how
do I know what type i need. my processor is an Intel(R) CPU T2080 @ 1.73Ghz.
there was also a game i tried to run that said something about direct x. I've
only had this computer a few weeks and its operating vista home basic.

Hi,

What display adapter is currently in use? Click start and type msinfo32,
then hit <enter>. In the left column, expand the components branch and click
on display. From the right column, post back with the name of the display
adapter.\

It may be the that you need a more powerful card, and this would involve
purchasing and physically installing one. It could also be possible that you
just need an appropriate driver to support the existing one.

Hi,

Ok, so you have a basic display adapter, not an addon card capable of higher
level effects. When does the error message occur? During bootup? If so,
there is something going on that is trying to alter the display settings. If
it happens when you try to start a game or other program, it means the
system does not contain the necessary specifications for it.
