Video Capture Problems in MM2

I have a Dell desktop, 1.8GHz P4 with 768MB RAM, firewire and 32MB ATI Rage
video card. I recently upgraded my RAM from 256MB. My capture settings are
High Quality NTSC, 720 x 480 at 30 FPS with no screen preview. I'm using my
Sony DCE-HC32.

The problem that I am having is that the first 1:30 to 1:40 minutes of
capture looks really good, then after this the capture starts to get really
jerky and choppy. I haven't yet bothered to finish the video to another
format yet.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Thanks for your help,

I forgot to add that I have a new Western Digital 120GB HD that is dedicated
to video. This drive is my D drive; my C drive has Windows XP OS and other
stuff. All of the capture temp and backup files go to the D drive.

After my first post I scrolled through some old postings and tried the
following. I recorded a couple of minutes using Movie Maker with the DV-AVI
setting and finished the movie by sending it back to the camcorder. The video
playback on the camera is incredibly broken up and choppy. In fact the two
minute video took over 6 min of tape to record to.

I checked the system on task manager while I was recording the two minute
video and saw the following:

CPU - 100%

Commit CHarge
Total 342804
Peak 346984

PF usage 334 MB
Physical Memory
Tot 785412
Avail 538484
SysCache 350244

Any help is greatly appreciated.
