victoriassecret.com and javascript:void(0)

J

Jus

Hi,

I sure hope someone can help me.

I'm shopping on victoriassecret.com and can not get the windows to come up
that contain the larger pictures.

For example, go to
http://www2.victoriassecret.com/com...H-155460&page=1&cgname=OSCLOOUTZZZ&rfnbr=2268 .

If you place your mouse over the picture of the woman in the coat, the
status bar below indicates "Shortcut to javascript:void(0)". If I actually
click on the picture (hoping to see a larger picture in a new window),
nothing happens. If I do a "View Source" on the page and copy the partial
URL information for that picture and put the correct domain information for
the URL in front of it, I get a new window with the correct picture. Please
see:
"
http://www2.victoriassecret.com/com...=STANDARD&buttonClicked=btn_lg_view&selColor=' +
selectedColor[0] ,'infowin',
'resizable=yes,height=542,width=500,scrollbars=no "

I have all pop up blockers disabled, no proxy and javascript enabled. Am on
WinXP Pro SP2 with all the latest patches and using IE 6.

Can someone help me figure this out? I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Jus

You need to have Javascript enabled in order for this website to work properly. What browser/version are you using?

Oops. Clicked before reading. See, e.g., http://www.umanitoba.ca/acn/support/websites/Javascript/ie6.html

Of course, there are those here who would say that this is a "security hole" ...

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

(WinXP users who have problems with 2a and 2b, see
http://www.mvps.org/archive/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm)

3. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

Thanks so much for the ideas and help. Unfortunately, I have tried each and
still no joy. Actually, didn't need to do step 5 because it wasn't checked,
but did all the rest. This is really stumping me. Any other ideas?

Thanks, again, in advance...Jus

Hi Frank
I had an exactly similar problem (although I wasn't shopping for
victorias secret) in that various buttons and links with which there
was a javascript association had failed to function for some time.
I went through your list and everything seems fine now.
I'm afraid I deviated a little from your suggested order but I tried
suggestion 5a first and found that the third party browser extension
had been checked (not by me, however).
This did not, however, rectify matters. Neither did steps 1, 2a or 2b.
However after registering the mshtml.dll file as shown in step 3, all
links and buttons worked fine once again.
Nevertheless, I did find that I was unable to register the file
oleaut.dll and received a failure message with a return code of
0x80070005.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks for your help so far

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know what the problem with oleaut.dll was,
other than it should be oleaut32.dll, but if things are working now that's
fine.

FWIW rather than use the word "caused" here I would substitute "needs".
The idea is to change your symptoms by taking away globally a condition
that some malware or broken third-party extensions would require to operate.
E.g., by preventing *all* such programs from working you prevent bad ones
from producing their unwanted symptoms without knowing which they are.

Thanks so much for the ideas and help. Unfortunately, I have tried each and

I suspect you do need to do 5b; otherwise why is the option unchecked?
E.g. perhaps you are covering up a previously undiagnosed (and probably
different) symptom with it? Perhaps now that undiagnosed symptom's
cause, still being present, is resulting in new unwanted symptoms,
even though not all of its functionality is possible (because you have
tried to disable it and all others globally). Etc.

You have not disclosed your OS and maintenance level.
Since you are cross-posting to an XP newsgroup we can guess
that the OS is XP but unless you are also running XPsp2
the above common diagnostic is all that you can be offered without
additional qualification and without referring to third-party diagnostics
(such as BHODemon.) E.g., if you are running XPsp2 you could
try using its new Manage Add-ons feature (Alt-T,A) to try to isolate
unwanted symptoms to particular subsets of such programs.
