Very slow net response after SP4 applied

after installing SP4 on W2K professional, my internet
response is abismal while trying to resolve a DNS.

Symptoms: if I ping using a dns (for example
www.yahoo.com) it takes probably 20 seconds to resolve and
receive reply. Once reply initiated get normal fast
response till I go to another DNS.

If I ping the ip address, the response is normally quick
(or if I use nslookup, I get fast response) This lead me
to believe that SP4 has a bug with DNS lookup?

Is there a setting or patch to fix this? I've spoken to
others who have experienced this problem. Their solution
was to roll back to SP3. Unfortunately, I did not use the
archieve option so that's probably not an option.

Thanks for any feedback.

Is your domain a single label name?
If it is, there are registry entries you make to fix this problem.

Hope This Helps

I agree. It's probably performing a recursive on each Root server, but SP4
stopped that behavior to prevent the unnecessary lookups to the ISC servers.
