Very slow logon to domain

I have seen this problem consistantly with window 2000 &
2003 servers. Server is setup with very standard install
with Active Directory. Domain user try logging into
server sometime takes 1-5 minute (sometime longer) to
logon and load setting.

It seems to stall at the as XP, Win2000 Pro user are
having the personal setting loaded from the Server.
Once everything loads, it works fine and users has access
to the domain/network.

It just seems strange that logging oo to the domain takes
so long. Any suggestions

Are the clients configured to point to the DNS server that contains the
records for the AD domain? They should NOT point to an ISP DNS server.
