Vertical text in Metafile prints as solid black box

When Printing to a color printer, all vertical text in an
enhanced metafile are printed as solid black boxes.

Background:
I am creating bar charts in excel 2002, then copying and
pasting them into Powerpoint as Enhance Metafile
Pictures. Everything appears to be fine, and when I
print to a B&W printer, they come out perfectly.
However, if I print to a color printer (or PDF in color),
all of the vertical text in the charts (the Catagory X
axis labels) print as solid black boxes.

Weird one, Eric.

What if you use just the plain "picture" paste special option instead of
the EMF picture option? Does that make a difference?

Have you updated your printer driver? Might be worth a try, anyway.

It sounds to me as if the axis text is being pasted with a
background-colored fill or something when you paste into PPT. It may not
be visible in color view, but something like that definitely can show up
when printing. Oh, have you gone to View/Black and White to check how it
should look? Do the black boxes show up then?

You might also want to see if ungrouping the pasted EMF (Draw/Ungroup)
helps. I wouldn't want to suggest that you do that for all your pasted
charts, but it would be interesting to know if that resolves the issue.
You might have to ungroup twice...
