Verifying Java Version

M

Marcus

Hi,

I have 2 Java versions in my Windows 98SE program files: 1.4.1 and Jre
1.5.0_02
How do I verify I am using the latest version? How do I change to that
latest version?

Thanks,

Marcus

O

oops!!

Marcus,

I would suggest you uninstall older versions and leave only the current one
active.

As easy as that and avoids any conflicts.

You can also check Control Panel > Java.

First of all, let's check if you have Microsoft VM

Go to Start/Run, type Wjview click OK

If you have it, it will show Window VM, Version 5.00.3810

Latest Sun Java is JRE 1.5.02

If you find you have MS VM, it's still a good idea to download latest
Sun Java, and then you will find them both at IE6 / Tools / Internet Options
/ Advanced

Java Sun is listed above MS VM, and you can change back & forth between the
2.

Java Sun is the best of the 2 ~ IF????? it has been scripted properly,
however, MS VM is
more forgiving, and a lot of folks who deal with Java applets frequently
prefer MS VM for
that reason.

If you want to test if your Java is opening scripts OK, try here
http://unclegus.150m.com/WabiLakes.html
as there are many Java applets to try.

If you don't have MS VM, and would like it, let me know (e-mail address removed) , as
I have both necessary files on my website

Keep smiling
