Hi,

I do not have any idea how to do this. If I add a meta tag it shows on
my homepage and I do not know how to upload a html file with the code
google gives me. I have done a website for my husbands business but
have no it experience. my site is www.dealchaserspe.co.za

Can anyone help me so that I can verify my site and start to get some
hits on it. Everyone we tell to go to the site, first go to google
search and we then have to tell them to type site address at top of
browser. Very confusing for customers. I need this site on google and
just cant get it done. Any help with step by step guides will be most
appreciated. I am uising FrontPage 2000.

Nikki,
First, you need to have the correct meta tag name. It looks like
you've just typed keywords into the name portion. The name of it has to be
Keywords and the value will actually be the keywords you have.

The page looks OK otherwise. Something to keep in mind, the meta
tags are nearly useless nowadays. Most search engines use their own methods
to determine keywords in a page as the meta tags have become less effective
as the web has matured. There is no way you can guarantee your site will
appear in Google's database. You can only request that they visit your site
and include it. This goes for almost all the search engines out there. The
only thing you can truly do is visit the various search engines (don't rely
solely on Google since they are still only about 50% of the market) and
locate the add a url or suggest a url links. Then supply them with the URL
of your web site. Then wait. Your site may be indexed by Google and have
it's keywords discovered, but it can take weeks (or longer than a month) to
actually have the scanned site integrated into the database. This is not a
process you'll have any control over either. Also, sites like Google don't
necessarily rank you solely on keywords. Google also uses the number of
people who link to your site as a metric and additionally how long you have
had your domain name. Getting listed well is a tricky business to say the
least and it's nowhere as simple as it was 5 years ago. Your best bet is to
also include a very, very relative and easy to search on title for the
homepage. If anything else Google will have it's best chance to find a site
by it's title. For example, if you search for "deal chasers business", the
first three words in the front page's title you'll come up with what looks
like an old domain for the one you are working on. Keeping the title
relevant to what people will search for you, such as the business name, can
be of great benefit.

One last note. If your site doesn't come up within a week or two
don't try to re-submit. Only do it once a month. The search engines will
often ban a site that attempts to update too frequently as they are seen as
spamming the search engine. Some users have found their sites blacklisted
completely because they simply tried to re-submit their web site every time
they made a change, in some cases more than daily.

Bottom line, you're at their mercy so you'll need to submit to the
broadest range of search engines possible to hope that more clientelle will
find your site and try to get your site linked from as many credible web
sites as possible.

Hi Mark

I have changed the name to Deal Chasers Business Broker and the value
to key words and phrases. Hope that is right. Do not know much about
IT. Done site trial and error.

Thanks again for the help.

You don't understand
You can't change the name from keywords
<meta name="keywords" content="..... ">

to
<meta name="Deal Chasers Business Broking" content=".... ">

If you want Deal Chasers Business Broking in the content add it as
<meta name="keywords" content="Deal Chasers Business Broking ..... ">
