vcard looses notes field on Oulook 2003 import.

Michael Smith

I am having a problem with vcards in Outlook 2003. I have updated to SP1.
When I create a vcard in Outlook or Outlook Express containing data in the
notes field, I can copy this vcard to my desktop. I can then open this vcard
and the notes data is preserved in the vcard. When I then drag this vcard
into my Outlook 2003 Contacts folder or import it from the File Menu to the
Contacts folder, the notes data is removed on import. Do you know a way
around this? Is there a setting in Outlook 2003 to not import the notes data
or is this a bug in Outlook 2003?

Thanks for your help,

Michael

Dear Michael,

Thank you for posting here.

Michael, I have followed the whole steps you described, however, I haven't
reproduce the issue you encountered. I list my steps below, if I am off
base, feel free to let me know.

1. In Outlook 2003, create a contact in Contact Folder and add some notes.
2. Left click the contact, click File menu, click Save as, and save it as
local VCard file in desktop.
3. Then I open the VCard file in desktop directly, I can see the notes I
add.
4. I remove the same contact in Outlook Contact Folder.
5. Drag the file in desktop to Outlook Contact Folder directly. It show the
full information of this contact, I click Save and Close button.
6. At last, I can see the notes in the contact.

Please go through the steps above and let me know the results so that I can
provide further assistance on this problem. I am looking forward to your
reply. Thanks and have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards,

Lee Li

I have had the same VCard problem ever since I switched to Outlook
2003. I have tried everything I can think of and find on the net to
fix the problem. I even tried the drag and drop method mentioned in
these posts. I just cannot get the notes to work. Any help is
greatly appreciated.

What is the problem? The newsgroup interface you are using apparently does
not quote earlier messages in the thread, making your latest message so
short on detail that you risk not getting the answer you're looking for.
Please take the time to quote the original message.

If you haven't already installed Office 2003 Service Pack 1, maybe it would
solve the problem -- see http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2003sp1.htm
