VC++ 2008 redistributables

I'm not sure if the following files were created by installing Visual Studio
2008 or the SDK for Server 2008 and DotNet 3.5 into Vista.

The files are in the root directory of the D: drive in Vista. This is the
same partition which was the C: drive in XP, containing NTLDR and Vista's
boot loader and an XP installation, but not containing the Vista
installation.

(Vista assigns drive letter C: to the partition containing the Vista
installation. That is the same partition which was the D: drive in XP.
That partition does not contain the following files that were created by
installing Visual Studio 2008 or the SDK for Server 2008 and DotNet 3.5 into
Vista.)

Anyway, can I treat D:\ like a temp folder? If I see files there which I
don't know why they're there, can I delete them?

I believe that you're seeing the problem desxcribed here:

http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=316557

Apparently, the VS2008 redist installer creates a bunch of files in the root
of the drive containing the directory from which the executable is run,
rather than in a temp folder. (Or maybe it's the root with the most space -
there are conflicting reports).

Adding your vote to the connect item couldn't hurt - it sounds like a new
redist is needed that puts these files in a sensible place. In the
meantime, I think that you can simply delete them after the install is
complete.

Yes it looks like the same issue, though in my case it might be the x64
version instead of x86 (I'm not sure how to tell) and it's Japanese not
Spanish.
